A mailing list is the lifeblood of your online business. The old adage “the money is in the list” cannot be true enough — if you had a targeted list of prospects to contact each time you have a new product, you will be able to save a lot of effort by marketing it to your existing list of targeted prospects.

You can actually build up a targeted list of prospects that are interested in your products by offering a relevant download on your website. For example, let’s take a look at a very good example — apple.com. When you download the free iTunes and Quicktime software from their site, they will ask you to fill in an optional name and email form so that they can send you offers on songs that you can purchase via — guess where — iTunes!

In reality, you do not need to offer such a “heavyweight” download such as a full-feature software like iTunes. You can attract prospects equally well with some quality freebies such as a simple report, a free wallpaper, and so on. The important thing is that your download offers enough value for the prospect to be willing to give away his/her own email address to get it.

However, slapping together a simple download and putting a link on your website won’t be enough to attract qualified prospects. You will have to do some homework in order for your lead-generating mechanism to work well for you.

First of all, you must place your download form prominently on your website. Preferably, dedicate a page to it and link to that page from every other page of your website. That way, there is no way your visitors cannot find the download page, and when they do, you’ll get some of them converted into your prospects!

Also, you have to put a little effort into promoting your download. Explain and elaborate on the values of the download, and why your visitors should download it. You might think why would anyone want to pass on a freebie, but most of your visitors would be too lazy to take the effort to download it because most of their downloads just sit on the harddisk collecting virtual dust. It is hence important to show your visitors why they should download your freebie.

Your website is where your business resides — it’s like the headquarter of an offline company. Hence, it is important to practise good design principles to make sure your site reaches out to the maximum number of visitors and sells to as many people as possible.

Make sure you have clear directions on the navigation of your website. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and concise so that visitors know how to navigate around your website without confusion.

Reduce the number of images on your website. They make your site load very slowly and more often than not they are very unnecessary. If you think any image is essential on your site, make sure you optimize them using image editing programs so that they have a minimum file size.

Keep your text paragraphs at a reasonable length. If a paragraph is too long, you should split it into seperate paragraphs so that the text blocks will not be too big. This is important because a block of text that is too large will deter visitors from reading your content.

Make sure your website complies to web standards at www.w3.org and make sure they are cross-browser compatible. If your website looks great in Internet Explorer but breaks horribly in Firefox and Opera, you will lose out on a lot of prospective visitors.

Avoid using scripting languages on your site unless it is absolutely necessary. Use scripting languages to handle or manipulate data, not to create visual effects on your website. Heavy scripts will slow down the loading time of your site and even crash some browsers. Also, scripts are not supported across all browsers, so some visitors might miss important information because of that.

SBA Loans

Special Note: For direct info on applying for Business Grants & Loans, Click Here

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) assists small business owners to start and expand their businesses by helping them get loans through private banks and financial institutions. SBA is the largest single financial backer for the nation’s small businesses with a portfolio of business loans, loan guarantees and disaster loans worth more than $45 billion, in addition to a venture capital portfolio of $13 billion.

SBA offers a number of low-interest loan programs for new and expanding small businesses. SBA is not a lender, and does not grant loans directly to businesses. Rather, SBA is a guarantor of loans made by privately owned banks and other financial institutions that agree to follow SBA’s guidelines.

To apply for an SBA loan, you need to visit your local participating bank or lending institution. When you apply for an SBA loan you are actually applying for a commercial loan, structured according to SBA requirements, which receives an SBA guaranty. This guaranty is portion of the loan the SBA will pay back to the lender should you default on your loan payments.

SBA’s Financial Assistance Guide describes SBA loan programs, including eligibility requirements, and how to apply for them.

Remember, that you’ll need to go through a local bank or financial institution to apply for an SBA loan. To get a list of SBA lenders in your area, contact your SBA District Office.

SBA Loans for Veterans

SBA offers a few loan programs to assist veterans and members of the military community:

Patriot Express Loan Initiatve
The SBA’s Patriot Express program provides loans for veterans and members of the military community wanting to establish or expand small businesses.

Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program
Provides funds to eligible small businesses to meet its ordinary and necessary operating expenses that it could have met, but is unable to meet, because an essential employee was “called-up” to active duty in their role as a military reservist.

USDA Rural Development Loans

If your business is located in a rural community, you might consider the the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has a Business and Industry (B&I) Guaranteed Loan Program. B&I loans work in the same manner as SBA loans. The USDA provides guarantees of up to 80 percent of a loan made by a commercial lender. Loan proceeds may be used for working capital, machinery and equipment, buildings and real estate, and certain types of debt refinancing.

The B&I Loan Guarantee Program Fact Sheet provides all you need to know about obtaining one of these loans, including eligibility, loan terms and conditions, equity requirements, and interest rates. Like SBA loans, you need to go through your local bank or financial institution to apply for a B&I loan. If you have any questions about the B&I Loan Guarantee Program or other financial options available for small farms, contact your state’s Rural Development Field Office.

Other Federal Loan Programs

Depending on your type of business, you may qualify for specialized federal loan programs. For example, if you are small and disadvantaged business engaged in federal transportation contracts, you may qualify the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Short Term Lending Program.

If you are a small trucking company, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership has partnered with several lenders to make money available to small trucking companies to help pay for technologies that saves fuel while reducing pollution.

To find other federal loan programs serving small business concerns, visit GovLoans.gov, the U.S. government’s central database of government loan programs.

State and Local Loan Programs

Many state and local governments also offer low-interest loan programs that they guarantee through commercial lenders. Contact your local Small Business Development Center to get assistance with locating state and local funding sources for your small business.

Venture Capital Financing

Small Business Investment Companies (SBIC)

In 1958, Congress created the Small Business Investment Companies (SBIC) program to help small U.S. companies raise capital. SBIC’s are privately owned and managed investment firms that provide venture capital and start-up financing to small businesses. To be eligible for SBIC financing, your business must meet certain SBA size requirements for a small business. Generally, the SBIC Program defines a company as “small” when its net worth is $18.0 million or less and its average after tax net income for the prior two years does not exceed $6.0 million. When you contact an SBIC, you’ll need to present a professional business plan that addresses your company’s operations, management, financial condition and funding requirements.

The following resources will help you locate SBIC financing:

SBA’s Guide for Entrepreneurs Seeking Financing provides in-depth information about the SBIC financing and eligibility requirements.

SBA’s SBIC Directory provides a listing of licensed SBIC investment firms in your state.

The National Association of Small Business Investment Companies (NASBIC) provides a Step-by-Step Guide to SBIC Financing. NASBIC is the trade organization for the SBIC industry, and also provides a directory of SBIC firms.

Active Capital (formerly Angel Capital Electronic Network – ACE-Net)

Active Capital is a nationwide listing service that connects entrepreneurs with angel investors. Potential investors can obtain information on start-ups and expanding small businesses seeking $250,000 to $5,000,000 in venture capital. Active Capital’s main benefit is that it allows entrepreneurs to directly access a nationwide network of investors while complying with federal and state securities regulations.

Small Businesses in Economically Distressed Communities

If your business is located in a low-income geographic area, there are a couple of venture financing options available to you. First, there is a special type of SBIC called Specialized Small Business Investment Companies (SSBIC). SSBIC’s provide assistance solely to small businesses owned by socially or economically disadvantaged persons. Secondly, you may be eligible for New Markets Venture Capital (NMVC) financing. Modeled after the SBIC program, the NMVC program makes equity investments in small businesses located in economically distressed communities in urban and rural areas. NMVC financing is available in limited areas, and available from these venture capital firms.

Federal and state grants are only available to support non-profit organizations, lending institutions, and state and local government programs that provide technical and financial assistance to small businesses. If your business is one of these organizations, Grants.gov provides grant opportunities available from federal agencies.

Again, federal and state government agencies do not award grants for starting, managing and expanding small businesses. However, state and local government grant opportunities may exist for small businesses engaged in very specialized activities. Many states provide job training grants to new and expanding firms. Other states provide grants to fund scientific research projects, and grants for agricultural development. For example, the New York State Dept. of Agriculture & Markets’ Winery Website Improvement Grant Program provides money to state wineries and vineyards for improving their websites. The California Energy Commission’s Energy Innovations Small Grant Program provides funds to small businesses to conduct research that establishes new, innovative energy concepts. Check with your state or local government to find these sorts of specialized grant opportunities.

Small Business Grants

A few federal programs provide grants to small firms engaged in scientific research and development (R&D). The Federal government’s SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs award a specific percentage of Federal R&D funds to qualified small businesses. SBIR/STTR programs encourage small firms to undertake scientific research that helps meet Federal R&D objectives, and have high potential for commercialization if successful. The following agency award SBIR/STTR grants:

Adopting environmentally-friendly and energy efficient business practices provides numerous benefits to new business owners looking to control costs, attract customers, and become socially responsible.

This guide provides you with some important information on implementing an environmental strategy for your business, including steps to becoming energy efficient, compliant with environmental regulations, and a recognized “green business.”

To Learn how to make money selling carbon credits, click here

Step 1: Comply with Environmental Regulations

As a green business, you should practice what you preach. This means complying with all environmental regulations relevant to your business. Compliance not only protects the environment, it protects your business from fines and legal action from the government. Consult the Environment Regulations section of the Green Business Guide for more information.

Step 2: Develop an Environmental Management Plan

Running a green business means creating an environmentally-friendly, energy efficient workplace. A sound environmental plan will help minimize your company’s eco-footprint, and encourage green business practices throughout your organization.

Step 3: Build Green

If you are opening a business in a new or remodeled building, make sure you build green and install energy efficient heating and air conditioning systems, appliances, equipment and lighting. Consult the following resources for more information:

Small Business Guide to Energy Efficiency

Green Building Resources

Step 4: Buy Green Products

Consider buying green products that are

Made from post-consumer, recycled materials

Bio-based

Non-toxic

Energy efficient rated products, such as ENERGY STAR?

Renewable and recyclable

Locally produced, such as food that is locally grown and organic

Step 5: Adopt Energy Efficient Practices

Good energy management is good business. The prudent and conservative use of energy is one of the easiest and most cost effective steps you can take to cut costs, increase profitability, and create shareholder value. Given the potentially high returns and minimal risk, implementing energy efficiency practices is at the core of most business environmental management strategies.

Conduct an Energy Audit. Whether you are opening a home based business or moving into an existing commercial building, having an energy audit conducted on your facility will help you quickly identify areas where you can save energy costs. See Managing Energy Efficiency Products for more information

Purchase ENERGY STAR appliances and office equipment

Provide energy saving tips to your employees

Look for green power and renewable energy sources

Visit the Small Business Guide to Energy Efficiency for more information

Step 6: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Wastes

Most businesses can save a substantial amount of money by reducing waste. In addition to lower removal costs, waste reduction measures help cut costs on raw materials, office supplies and equipment. Furthermore, by streamlining your operations to reduce waste, you may also be able to enhance your overall efficiency, productivity and public image.

Develop waste management procedures throughout your operations that includes:

Use of post-consumer, recycled products

Elimination of excessive product packaging materials

Optimized use of paper products

Participation in recycling programs, such as EPA’s WasteWise

For more information visit our Waste Management Guide.

Step 7: Conserve Water

The increased demand on our nation’s water supply is threatening human health and the environment. By implementing a water efficiency program, you can not only help conserve this precious resource, but cut your costs associated with buying, heating, treating and disposing of it.

Have a water audit conducted at your facility by your local water agency

Conserve water using best available technology and water saving equipment utilities

Minimize discharges to sewer/wastewater

For more information visit our Water Conservation Guide.

Step 8: Prevent Pollution

Every business generates waste. For some, it may be only waste paper or dirty water; for others, it may be hazardous or toxic wastes that require special handling and disposal.

Whatever the type or volume of waste your company generates, it is costing you money. You pay for what you use twice – once when you buy it and the second time when you throw it away. The bottom line is that preventing waste will save you money.

For resources to help you prevent pollution, visit our guide to Pollution Prevention.

Step 9: Create a Green Marketing Strategy

If you are starting a green business, you need to market yourself as one. Adding “green” claims and eco-labels to your marketing strategy will enhance your brand image and secure your market share among the growing number of environmentally concerned consumers.

Visit our Green Marketing Guide for information on the legal aspects of green marketing and strategies for successful campaigns.

Step 10: Join Industry Partnership and Stewardship Programs

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsors a wide variety of industry partnership and stewardship programs that aim to reduce the impact of industrial activities on the environment. These partnerships will help you build relationships with other green business owners in your industry, and build a brand that’s credible with your customers.

To Learn how to make money selling carbon credits, click here

According to the The Organic Trade Association’s Manufacturer Survey, the organic industry grew by 21% to reach $17.7 billion in consumer sales in 2006. Over the last decade organic sales have increase by an average of 20%, and this rate is expected to remain steady over the next 20 years.

Successful green businesses not only benefit the environment, but also use green business practices as means to market their products. If you are thinking of starting a green business, consider the following tips:

Find Your Niche. As the natural, organic lifestyle continues to catch on with consumers, there are many growth possibilities. Products such as food, cosmetics and cleaning supplies are growing areas within the organic trade, however, to be successful, you should look for opportunities that match your interests.

Get Certified. To differentiate your product or service as environmentally sound, consider obtaining certification from an independent, third-party. Being certified means that you can include their “ecolabel” on your product’s label and other marketing materials. Ecolabeling is important for attracting “green” customers. Learn more about Green Marketing.

Practice What You Preach. The most successful green businesses don’t just sell the green lifestyle. They live it. Selling green means being green, and this helps build your brand and image as a socially responsible. Before you start you business, consult the following resources:

Join Industry Partnerships. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsors a wide variety of industry partnership and product stewardship programs that aim to reduce the impact of industrial activities on the environment. Joining one of these programs helps you connect with others in your industry, grow your brand, and protect the environment and natural resources.

Small businesses are critical to the economy. Here are the legal steps you need to take in order to start a new business.

Keep your business safe: To learn how to avoid lawsuits and federal fines, click here

Step One: Determine Your Business Structure

The first decision you need to make as you launch your
business is what kind of organizational structure it should have. Should it be a
sole proprietorship? A partnership? A corporation? The answers to these
questions should be based on several factors:

The degree of control you want to have over the business.

The degree of formal organization you need.

The need to protect against liability for business actions.

The ability to attract investors.

Tax considerations for both you and your investors (if any).

While it is not necessary to engage an attorney to file
business documents, we strongly recommend that you consult with an attorney,
accountant, financial adviser, and/or banker to help you determine which
business structure is most suitable for you.

Step Two: Reserve a Business Name (optional)

Once you have selected a name for your business, you need to find out whether you can use it. Under state law, you may not adopt a business name that is the same as or indistinguishable from that of another business. To find out whether a business name may be available, call the Business Services Bureau of the Secretary of State’s Office.

Reserving a name is necessary only if you are not yet prepared to file the organizational documents discussed in Step Three. You can reserve a name for 120 days as you set up your business.

Specifically, you need to file the Application for Reservation of a Business Name and pay a $10 filing fee. The form requires that you list the name, type, and location of your business, as well as the date you intend to start business. When you have completed the form, return it to the Secretary of State’s Office with the filing fee.

You do not need to submit an Application for Reservation of a Business Name unless you need extra time to prepare and submit your documents of organization. You can simply list your business name on your organizational documents and avoid the $10 filing fee associated with reserving a name.

It is a good idea to wait to order stationery, forms, business cards, and advertising until you get final approval that your documents have been filed and your business name is approved.

Step Three: File Organizational Documents

Depending on the type of organizational structure you have
chosen, you will need to file:

An Application for Registration of an Assumed Business Name. File this form
with the Secretary of State if you plan to start a sole proprietorship,
general partnership, or association. Once approval is given, your business
name will be registered with the state for five years.

A Certificate of Limited Partnership. Both domestic and foreign limited
partnerships must file in order to do business in Montana.

Registration of Limited Liability Partnership.

Articles of Incorporation. These are required of corporations or individuals who wish
to do business in Montana through a corporation. Nonprofit corporations must
also file Articles of Incorporation.

Articles of Organization. File these with the Secretary of State’s Office if you
want to form a limited liability company.

Step Four: Apply for Tax ID Numbers

The Internal Revenue Service requires every business who hires employees, or is a partnership or corporation
have a federal tax identification number. To obtain one, call the IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-4933.

To apply for a state withholding tax ID number contact Department of Revenue,

To apply for a state unemployment insurance tax ID number contact your State
Department of Labor and Industry at (406).

Step Five: Apply for Professional Licenses

Under state law, some professions — such as architects,
barbers, chiropractors, and dentists — must be licensed. To determine whether
you need a professional license, contact the Business and Occupational Licensing Bureau of the state Department of Labor and Industry.

Step Six: Apply for Local Licenses

Every city and county has specific requirements about doing
business within its jurisdiction. Call or visit your county courthouse or city
offices to find out what particular requirements exist in your area.

Step Seven: Apply for Workers’ Compensation

If you are planning to hire employees, find out what kind
of insurance coverage you are required to provide under state Workers’
Compensation laws.

If you have questions on workers’ compensation please contact the Department of Labor.

Step Eight: File an Annual Report

If you have a corporation or limited liability company, you must file an Annual Report to stay in good standing with the Secretary of State’s Office. The report is due each year by April 15 and must be accompanied by a $15 filing fee. Businesses that file after that date will be charged a penalty.

If you have a Montana corporation or limited liability company and fail to file an Annual Report by December 1, your company will be involuntarily dissolved. You will have the option of filing an Application for Reinstatement for up to five years after dissolution.

If you have a foreign corporation or limited liability company (located outside Montana), you must file your Annual Report by November 1 or your Certificate of Authority will be involuntarily revoked with no
possibility of reinstatement.

Throughout the life of your business, it may become necessary to change your business name, ownership information, registered agent, or registered address, or to amend your articles, or to merge with another entity. It is very important that you notify the Secretary of State’s Office of any changes.

In your Annual Report, you can report changes in your principal officers or directors, as well as information about shareholders. However, if you need to remove a member from a Montana limited liability company, you must file a Statement of Dissociation.

How to Launch a New Business

Small businesses are critical to the economic vitality and stability of the Montana economy. The Secretary of State’s Office is here to serve you as you launch your new business venture.

Anyone who has been marketing online knows that the lifeblood of a business is the traffic of a site. More visitors equal more sales. However, here are some ways that you can tweak your sites with to improve sales without the need to get more visitors.

The first method is to weave in your personal touch in your sales message. Nobody wants to be sold to by a total stranger, but many people will buy what their close friends recommend to them. If you can convince your audience that you are a personal friend who has their best interest at heart, they will be convinced to buy your products. Remember to speak to an individual in your sales letter, not to your whole audience.

The second method is to publish testimonials and comments from your customers. A good idea would be to publish both good and bad comments; that way prospects will be really convinced that these testimonials are real. When prospects see testimonials on your website, they will have the confidence to buy from you because human beings follow the herd mentality; when others have bought and proven it authentic, they will jump on the bandwagon and buy too.

Use visual representations for the problems and solutions that your product offers. Not everyone will read your text copy from the head to the tail, but most people will pay attention to images on your website.

Offer quality bonuses to accompany the product. When you offer bonuses that complement your product, your prospects will feel it’s a very good deal and it would be stupid to miss it. Be sure to state the monetary value of your bonuses so that people will be even more compelled to grab your good bargain.

Lastly, ask for the sale! Many people entice their prospects with the benefits of their product, sell to them with stories of how it has solved many problems, even offered killer bonuses but forget to ask for the sale. Give a clear instruction on how to buy your product (e.g. “click the button to buy now!“).

Be creative when thinking of ways to make your product or service more attractive to your target market. For example, the New York Times increased the type size and spacing in its editorials to make them easier for aging baby boomers to read.

If you can’t afford a fax machine, then consider signing up for your own, free virtual fax number. You can get your own online fax number that will send your faxes directly to your e-mail inbox. If you travel a lot and need to receive faxes from the office, this service is a godsend.

You may be losing valuable traffic and not even know it! Here’s something you may never have thought of before:
If I were to type your domain name — http://www.yourdomain.com — into my web browser without the “WWW” so it looked like this:

http://yourdomain.com … would I be immediately sent to your site or would I receive a “Page Not Found” error? Don’t be too quick to answer. Think about it. Have you tried this before?

Because while most web hosts and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are now set up to accept both, some are not! And this means that visitors who drop the “WWW” and simply type “yourdomain.com” into their browsers may be getting an error message… and you may be losing valuable traffic!

If you try this and find that “yourdomain.com” doesn’t work, contact your web host or ISP and request that they make the necessary changes. It’s a quick 5-minute fix for them… and everyone they service will benefit.

Some may try to charge you a fee for this change, but I would argue that this is a common service provided by the majority of ISPs and web hosts today. If they want to remain competitive and keep your business, then you shouldn’t have to pay.

However, if they still insist on charging you, and the fee is minimal, then you should pay it. After all, you’re probably losing valuable traffic that will more than pay for this expense in the long run.

It’s such a minor problem… but it could be losing you major traffic! So check into this today!

Viruses are hazardous to the health of your computer… and your business. While there was once a time when the only way you could be infected by a virus was by downloading software from an FTP site or by exchanging floppy disks, today’s viruses pose a threat of a much greater magnitude. Why? Because e-mail has made the transferring of information so incredibly easy… and FAST!

t’s pretty scary to think that you can get a virus simply by opening a funny e-mail that a friend sent you… or by opening a file that you’ve downloaded off the Internet. However, if you protect yourself properly, it is unlikely that you will ever have this problem!

One of the best ways to prevent viruses is by installing virus detection software. However, do not just install it and forget about it! New viruses are created every day, so you need virus detection software that will automatically update itself on a regular basis. Once a week, if not more frequently, is usually best.

There are dozens of packages available from your local software dealer … or through Internet downloads. Be sure that you can get regular updates for the package you choose. Some even offer versions that will automatically update themselves every week by logging online, protecting you against the multitude of new viruses that are created every day!

Yahoo Search runs Pay for Performance ads alongside traditional search results. Yahoo saw that the internet was fast becoming the easiest and most convenient way to shop, and advertising was going to hit at an all time high because of the many businesses in the arena.

To get a person to go to a site than others, it needs to be very visible. Providing ads that could direct potential consumers and costumers to their site would allow them to have an increase in traffic as well as sales. Yahoo provides a service that can put a site or company’s ad in their sites that can be shown when certain keywords are inputted.

Yahoo offers a chance for any company to increase their traffic by using their services. With more people being aware of your site, there would be more traffic and visitors to your site given the chance to view your pages as well as your products. With even a small percentage of successful sales, with a high traffic volume this could still be a substantial figure for your company.

Getting a consistent substantial flow of website visitors is every company’s goal. Many methods are devised and utilized to ensure that there would be more people to boost the sales and to be aware of the existence of such a product or service. Website visitors are potentially the life blood of your internet based business.

Yahoo utilizes the same principle as Google’s Adwords. In fact, they are very similar to each other that they use keyword and keyword phrase searches and to determine which ads to show per search. When a person types in a keyword or keyword phrase to search for anything, the search engines gives out the results in a page. Then at the right side of the page, you will see selected ads that have paid for their ads to be viewed with certain keywords and keyword phrases searched.

For example, Lets say you run a car parts retail/wholesale site. You choose keywords that can prompt or trigger your ads to be shown in the page when a keyword is searched. When a search engine user types in Honda Accord, your ad may come up if you have designated that as one of your keywords. You don’t need to fully optimize your site with Search Engine Optimization methods and techniques.

While some labor so hard to make their site one of the high ranking sites per keyword search, you get the chance to be on the top of the list or at least in the first page of a search result increasing your chance to be clicked on. With that, you drive traffic and website visitors to your site a lot faster.

You will have to pony up some cash when using this service though. There are different ways Yahoo will charge you. It may be in the number of Keywords or Keyword phrases your ad uses or in the many times your ad is clicked on. Others offer many other services like having your ad show up not only in the search engine pages but also with some third party sites.

Third party sites support ads that have the same theme or niche as them. With more areas your ad is shown, you increase the chances of people knowing about your site or product. With more website visitors you increase the sales of your site which makes your investment with your ads a wise one.

With so many competitions in the internet based businesses, it is necessary to take a huge leap forward from the pack by advertising. Yahoo/Overture will be a great place to start. Many have utilized their services and have reaped the rewards of this decision. It’s a marketing strategy that will increase your website visitors as well as increase your sales resulting to profit.

It takes money to make money, while there are some methods that are basically low cost or free, using a marketing service such as what Yahoo offers will provide results faster and on a larger scale. Many businesses have learned this the hard way, don’t be counted with them.

There are many different ways to advertise your business on the Internet. Placing banner ads, orchestrating an email marketing campaign and tactfully mentioning your business on industry related forums and message boards are just a few of the popular options for Internet marketing. Another Internet marketing strategy involves creating and advertising a website to promote your business. You can use your website in a number of ways.

Some of these ways include providing more information about your business and the products or services you offer, letting potential customers know how to reach you and even selling your products and services via the website. This article will highlight the advantages of using a website to market your business and will outline some of the ways the website can be useful.

One great advantage to using a website to market your business on the Internet is that you can place descriptions and photos of the products or services your business offers. This is important because many consumers use the Internet when researching products and services. Having an online presence gives your business an advantage over the competition because consumers are much more likely to select your products or services over the products and services offered by your competitors who do not advertise online.

Another advantage to marketing your business on a website is you can use the website to not only market but also sell your products directly. Again this can give you an edge over the direct competition. Consumers who use the Internet to research products and services are often very anxious to make their purchases and they would be more inclined to select a retailer or service providers who offer the opportunity to purchase products or services online over a retailer or service provider who only allows for purchase in a store or via phone.

Still another advantage to using a website to market your business is the ability to reach a large, worldwide audience. The Internet essentially knows no boundaries and advertising on a website means the business owner can reach competitors around the world instead of being limited to their general location.

Advertising via other medium such as television, radio and the print media is somewhat limited and may only reach potential customers in a relatively small geographic area.

Another advantage to using a website to market your business is the Internet is available 24 hours a day around the world. This essentially offers you a storefront which is open 24 hours a day. While your competitors may be limited to their regular business hours, your website will enable you to reach your customers at any hour of the day. This is especially important for reaching potential customers in other time zones and for reach customers in your own area who are simply too busy to shop for products or services like the ones you offer during regular business hours. Many potential customers work long hours and appreciate the ability to research and shop online after hours.

One final advantage to using a website to market your business is you can actually generate a profit from your website in other ways than through sales to customers. You can also use your website to generate income by selling advertising space to other business owners who are marketing their own products and services on the Internet. However, care should be taken when advertising on your website. First of all you should not sell advertising space to direct competitors.

This is important because this may cause you to lose potential business if potential customers opt to purchase product or services from competitors who advertise on your website. An ideal advertiser is one who offers products and services which do not directly compete with your own products or services but would be of interest to your potential customers.
